These mats incorporate something called nose work! Nose work mimics the inherent foraging and hunting activities.

What senses does the mat allow the dog to use

Since most of the food will be buried, your dog will have to use her nose to root it out as well as her eyes.

Then, she will have to use her paws to dig or her teeth to maneuver the fleece strips to get at the food.

This takes a lot more mental and physical stimulation than most slow feeding bowls.

Snuffle Mats, Australia DO NOT recommend washing your mat in your washing machine as different machines agitate at different rates and it can cause your mat to disintegrate.

We throw ours in the bath tub or laundry trough in warm water with just a bit of gentle washing liquid. Let the water out and roll the mat and squish out all the water. Then dry them in a warm airy spot. If you give the mat a good shake and allow it to dry before putting it away after each use, you will find it doesn’t need washing as much.

How to use your Snuffle Mat

Give the Snuffle Mat a good shake. Shake some treats in various locations over and inside the felt pieces of the mat.
Encourage your dog to start to look for the food. Most dogs catch on quickly.
